Write 2 Case studies

Don’t overcomplicate this part. Just think of your project in phases (from concept to launch) and write it all down. Consider including:

1. Introduction & goal

What was the task at hand?

2. Your process

How did you approach the problem? How did you work through it?

3. Images with captions

Make it easy to scan your case study and understand the context.

4. The outcome

What was the final result? How is this a success story?

5. Credits

Be sure to include what role you played, and credit your team.

Create your homepage

This is your first impression to a potential client or employer. It should make them want to click into your projects and learn more about you.

browser

Matteo’s homepage is beautiful simply because of his work.

Remember your portfolio is about showcasing the work; it does not need to be a work of art in itself. Focus on presenting your projects, not designing a masterpiece.

Show personality, but avoid clichés like “I’m a storyteller pushing pixels and crafting experiences.” Just be yourself. If you’re funny, be funny. If you’re not funny, be straightforward.

browser

Studio HMVD’s homepage leads with a beautifully simple and straightforward introduction.

Did you guess it? It's your About page. This is where we get a sense of who you are and how you will add to our team. It's also how we contact you.

Cori Corinne has a fantastic About page, showing her personality in a bold, memorable way.

Don’t be afraid to get personal here. Do something weird. Do something memorable. Show us why we can’t find someone like you anywhere else.

Mobile optimization

Check the main breakpoints (desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile) to be sure your site transitions nicely on all screen sizes.

Image optimization

Too-large images will impact your site performance in a big way. Compress your images quickly using a plugin. You can make them quite small while keeping them sharp.

Favicon

Yes, that tiny icon at the top of the browser when we view your page. Upload one. Make it cute. It's these small touches that show you care about the details.

Social share images & copy

When people go to share your site, an image should appear. Tweets with images receive 150% more retweets than those without. That's like,  2.5 RTs instead of 1!

Social links

How do we find your Instagram, your Twitter, LinkedIn, Dribbble, Yahoo! Personals dating profile? Link it up. Your employers or potential clients will find it on their own, anyway.

Your name

Seems obvious. You'd be surprised how often people forget it.
